Eagle Hill’s people are Eagle Hill. We believe in providing an environment where our professionals are challenged to grow to their full potential yet have the flexibility to shape a career path that meets their goals. Here a few consultants share in their own words what it is like to work at Eagle Hill.
A Day in the Life of Jeff
6:45AM – Wake up. After years of traveling for work, I like waking up in my own bed. I would usually be standing in the airport security line about this time instead of smelling my coffee brew and watching some headlines on the news.
8:15AM – Arrive at client site. Once I arrive at work, I usually spend an hour preparing for my week by making sure that I understand the goals for this week and by catching up on emails. And, of course, I spend a few minutes catching up with other Eagle Hill consultants and finding out how their weekend went.
10:00AM – Since Eagle Hill has several projects at this client, our team gets together for our weekly internal status meeting so that everyone is up to speed on the progress of each project as well as to just learn more about each project’s challenges.
10:30AM – I’m preparing for a client meeting at 11 AM for an organizational design project. The meeting is with a task force with the department heads. I’m in the process of preparing an update to the task force on some of the findings from our interviews. During the meeting, we also hope to get the task force’s perspective on what people think about our project. I just need to finalize the last few slides for this deck before the meeting.
12:00PM – Lunch. Now that the meeting is over, I have time to grab a bite to eat. A few people from the team and I are planning to take a walk up the street to pick up a sandwich.
12:45PM – One of the other things I do at Eagle Hill is support our recruiting effort. We are in a growth phase right now and have a demand for new consultants. So I need to spend about an hour catching up with our recruiter and work together on who we should invite for an interview.
2:00PM – I’m making some updates based on the outcomes of the meeting with the task force this morning. I have to provide an update for the Sr. Vice President during our bi-weekly meeting at 3 PM.I really appreciate the opportunity to be engaged with the decision-makers at our clients and be able to work directly with them.
3:45PM – I check in with one of our vendors who is working on some marketing material for the job fair we’re attending in a few weeks. I enjoy supporting business-building activities such as EHC marketing because I know that I’m gaining experience in building a business.
5:15PM – I take a few minutes to assess our project status against the schedule and determine we’re still right on schedule. As I take a moment to look at our project plan and our goals, I know that we are going to be able to provide this client with a solution tailored to meet their needs – a solution that they can really implement.
5:45PM – I’m catching up on a few recruiting items for an interview session next week before heading home. Overall, it’s been a great day for the beginning of the week, and I’m looking forward to meeting my fiancé for dinner and drinks tonight.
A Day in the Life of Mary
5:45AM – Wake up. My young daughter wakes me up as
she does most days. I get up and get her ready for the day before I get ready
for work. Today is Wednesday and our weekly Eagle Hill company-wide breakfast
meeting is this morning. I spent some time over the past few weeks gathering
some information on opportunities in the nonprofit sector that I’m sharing
with everyone in a short presentation today.
7:30AM – Eagle Hill Breakfast. Our weekly breakfast meeting gives us the opportunity to get together once a week and to catch up with colleagues who are working on different clients. Today our agenda includes a review of business opportunities, an update from one of our new client project teams and my short presentation. I enjoyed researching the nonprofit sector and I’m looking forward to hearing what my colleagues have to say about possible opportunities in that area.
9:00AM – Arrive at client site. The project that I’m working on requires half of my time, but I try to go to the client site every day to ensure that things are going well. I plan to check in with some of my clients and review some materials that I will present on Friday during our weekly status meeting. After answering a few emails, I’ll head to a several hour client meeting to review the change management plan and gather feedback on our approach.
12:00PM – Lunch. The meeting went well with the clients this morning, and I’m going to grab a salad before I leave the client site. I’ve enjoyed working with this client and we’re already working on expanding the project in the next phase to include additional strategic planning work. As I eat my lunch, I think about my meetings this afternoon. I’ve got a meeting in McLean to review a proposal with Eagle Hill’s executive team. Then I need to head downtown for meeting at a Federal agency about a process improvement project.
1:15PM – At the McLean office. We review a proposal to help a financial services client with the development of their strategic plan for the next 3 years. During the meeting, we make the final edits to improve the flow of the proposal as well as to validate that we are addressing all of the client’s key concerns. I think with our experience this opportunity is a great fit for us.
3:30PM – I’ve made my way from McLean to the District to meet with the CFO of a Federal agency. The CFO invited us to meet with her and her team to share our capabilities and qualifications and to discuss how we might be able to help her team address some of their challenges. I really appreciate that Eagle Hill provides me with the opportunity to work with the executive team on business development and to share my expertise with potential clients.
5:15PM – We hold a debrief meeting at a coffee shop downstairs on the CFO meeting to review outcomes of the meeting and to identify next steps. The CFO wants to meet with us again in two weeks. She indicated that our approach, qualifications, and our work products have impressed her and her team and they want to discuss next steps in bringing us in to help them. I’ve been to multiple places and worked on many things today, but it’s been a great day. And I’ve been able to contribute both at a client site and on business development.
6:00PM – I’m headed home. It’s been a great day overall and we’ve been very successful in my client work as well as working on business development efforts. I’ll be glad to get home and see my husband and daughter and to hear about their days.
