DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY
Business Challenge
The organization lacked a common definition and vision for leadership. Without a common definition, leaders could not effectively promote the organization’s mission and inspire others to follow. In addition, employees did not have awareness of what makes an effective leader and how leaders fit into the overall organization. Since the leadership vision was neither communicated nor taught to employees, the lack of a common leadership definition resulted in existing leaders modeling inconsistent leadership behaviors and employee confusion on what leadership skills should be developed. The organization needed to define and communicate a strategy of how leaders develop and progress.
Solution
To help our client develop a comprehensive leadership training and professional development strategy, the Eagle Hill team conducted the following activities:
- Conducted interviews: Eagle Hill conducted interviews with key leadership across the organization to gather existing documentation related to the organization’s leadership strategy and understand the current environment.
- Analyzed data. The team analyzed the data captured to identify leadership challenges and develop recommendations to address the challenges through leadership training and professional.
- Engaged stakeholders to finalize strategy: Eagle Hill facilitated a series of meetings with key stakeholders to finalize the leadership development program’s mission, vision, outcomes, and recommendations.
- Developed high level performance measurement and stakeholder approach: Eagle Hill developed a performance measurement approach to assess the effectiveness of the strategy and a stakeholder engagement approach to support the socialization and adoption of the strategy.
Results Achieved
- Defined the organizational needs for leaders over the next several years and articulated the program vision
- Resulted in a clear vision and definition of leadership that informed a future leadership curriculum
- Helped to align training leadership training courses and develop consistent leadership behaviors across the Agency
- Outlined the leadership capabilities necessary to achieve the Agency’s mission and provided guidance on how individuals can develop their leadership capabilities
