ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGY RECOMMENDATIONS

Business Challenge
The Chief Human Capital Officer (CHCO) recognized that the HR function was performing at sub-optimal levels across the agency. The decentralized HR organization demonstrated operational inefficiencies, redundant resources across multiple locations and underutilized resources. In order to support the agency’s evolving mission, the HR organization needed to define a solution that optimized the value of the Agency’s HR talent and resources to ensure achievement of their strategic workforce goals. The client asked Eagle Hill to plan and facilitate a multi-day strategic planning session with a team of HR representatives from across the agency.

Solution
Eagle Hill worked with the client to design and facilitate a workshop where participants assessed the HR organization’s current challenges and defined performance improvement initiatives.

Eagle Hill supported the workshop by:

  • Defining a unique, interactive workshop agenda and materials. The structure of the workshop created an atmosphere that encouraged interaction and brainstorming between team members as well as created an open environment for identifying initiatives. The workshop agenda and materials included information on leadership models, structured activities and strategic planning discussions.
  • Facilitating team building during the workshop. Our experienced facilitators engaged everyone on the team and encouraged “out of the box” thinking. They used structured activities to facilitate group decision-making, prioritization and planning activities.
  • Documenting key outcomes. Eagle Hill presented the workshop’s key outcomes in a report, which also included analysis linking the key initiatives to the business challenges and recommendations for next steps.
  • Developing strategic and organizational recommendations. Based on the discussion and observed team behavior, Eagle Hill developed a cohesive list of recommendations for improving the team’s effectiveness for the team’s leader. The list included strategic, team behavior, organization and leadership alignment and change management recommendations.

Results Achieved
Through this workshop, the team developed a shared view of the challenges facing the HR organization, identified a prioritized list of initiatives to address these challenges, and defined the scope, approach and next steps for each initiative. After the workshop, Eagle Hill worked with the client to define the workshop’s key outcomes and to develop an action plan that would enable the client to move the initiatives forward as one cohesive program.
