LARGE SCALE TRAINING ROLLOUT

Business Challenge
After a mandatory regulatory audit, a top-5 national banking institution learned that its workforce was not adhering to required regulations in their day-to-day work. In order to resolve this issue, this organization needed to make changes; specifically, it needed to shift its corporate culture to focus more on compliance, improve the effectiveness of their regulatory compliance training and restructure their corporate-level compliance department.

The scope of this effort included a diverse workforce of over 60,000 employees, managers and executives located in 2,000 locations across the US.

Solution
The project included a redesign of the compliance department and training function. This resulted in a revamp of every training module in the organization and created a seamless compliance process among regulatory experts, managers and employees. The solution incorporated the following key activities:

  • Analyzed Training Effectiveness. The team analyzed existing compliance issues to determine root causes, identify which issues could be addressed via training or through other means and prioritize the known issues. The team also analyzed the effectiveness and efficiency of this organization’s compliance training program to determine areas for improvement.
  • Mapped Desired Compliance Outcomes by Job Function. An important aspect of our solution was to inventory every position and job function at the organization, analyze the laws and regulations that applied to each position and to identify the required regulatory outcomes desired by job function. We also analyzed training requirements by location, position and level to determine key trends and factors that would ultimately drive our training strategy and plan.
  • Created Detailed Communications Strategy & Plan. In order to manage the impact on the 60,000 individuals, our solution included developing a communications strategy and then effectively executing the plan. The plan included stakeholders from the CEO to the line employee.
  • Built Training Effectiveness Metrics. The team developed key metrics to track the effectiveness of the training program. This included a tracking mechanism to determine who needed to be trained, on what topic and when. It also included identifying which job functions were “high-risk” regulatory positions and needed more frequent monitoring and tracking.
  • Completed a Compliance Department Redesign. Our solution also included a complete organizational redesign of the compliance department including new job descriptions, skill requirements, performance requirements, defined career paths and requirements for continuing education.

Results Achieved
This complex program delivered a significant shift in corporate culture. It improved the organization’s regulatory training program and enabled the organization to be in full compliance with the applicable laws and regulations.
