STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT

Business Challenge
The management staff and the Board of Directors for an organization that managed a series of radio and TV stations needed help developing their 5 year strategic plan. The strategic plan focused on audience strategies including targeting new demographics, content strategy, web and new media strategies, branding strategy and the corporate structure including the management organization and a long term financial plan.

Solution
The team worked with the Board through a series of facilitated sessions to develop the business strategy.

The accomplished work included the following tasks:

  • Analyzing external marketplace. Completed comprehensive research to determine key external marketplace trends including demographic, economic, geographic and technology trends that potentially could impact the organization in the future
  • Assessing organizational leadership. Conducted extensive interviews with key members of management and staff, including many of the Board members
  • Developing SWOT analysis. Developed an analysis of internal strengths and weaknesses of the organization and its place in the market. This analysis coupled with the external analysis formed the foundation for discussing future strategy
  • Facilitating strategy development. Facilitated brainstorming sessions with the Board and management team to develop the business strategy, to define the Board’s leadership role and to define how the Board needed to change to enhance management of the organization
  • Developing the five year strategic plan. Developed the final strategic plan document and presented it to the Board

Results Achieved
The work resulted in the Board re-structuring themselves and adopting a more pro-active leadership model in guiding the organization towards future success.
