I’m heartbroken by the loss of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and all the countless other black men and women who have perished at the hand of racism.
These recent deaths are another painful reminder of a long history of senseless violence and systemic racism that continue to deeply wound our communities.
This is more than a time of mourning. It is time to reflect on the harsh reality that we are not fulfilling the promise of equal justice for all.
It also is time for change. Changing a national culture to one that unequivocally rejects racism and discrimination and genuinely values diversity and inclusion. Creating this change is long overdue.
While Eagle Hill is only a small part of our community, we know that for change to truly take hold, each and every one of us must do our part.
As a company, we have a responsibility to help make our communities better. And today, that means placing an increased focus on fostering diversity and inclusion. We’ve already committed to making diversity and inclusion part of the fabric of Eagle Hill. We have regular conversations with employees of all levels and backgrounds about what diversity and inclusion means, how we can all show up to actively foster it, and how we continuously strive to improve.
What can we all do today to make a difference for our broader community and nation? Here’s a start.
We can help foster change by voting (especially in local elections), making our voices heard in a productive way, and volunteering in our communities.
We can be brave and lean into tough conversations about racism, inequality, diversity, and inclusion.
We can acknowledge our own personal biases and find ways to listen, learn, and grow past them.
We can choose kindness, treating every individual with generosity, empathy, and respect.
