Eagle Hill offers new approaches to attract & retain top technology talent when competing against tech giants like Amazon and Google

Amid Tight Labor Market, Unconventional Methods Essential

Arlington, Va., February 7, 2019 –  Eagle Hill Consulting has developed a range of unconventional options that companies and recruiters can implement to overcome challenges hiring and retaining top technology talent. The approaches come as companies face historically low unemployment levels and technology giants like Amazon expand their reach to new geographic and product markets.

The approaches are contained in Guerilla Recruiting Tactics for Hiring Top Tech: How to attract top technology talent when you aren’t Amazon, Google or Microsoft available here, and Guerilla Retention Tactic for Keeping Tech Talent: How to hold on to your technology talent when Amazon moves into the neighborhood available here.

“The need for tech talent is an issue facing virtually every industry – from banking to healthcare. But, it’s significantly harder for companies outside of the tech sector to attract top talent when the technology darlings seem to have a competitive edge in landing the best and the brightest people. This is becoming a bigger challenge because technology now drives nearly all industry business models, customer service and/or efficiency,” says Melissa Jezior, Eagle Hill’s president and chief executive officer.

Recent Eagle Hill Consulting research found that nearly three-fourths of information technology (IT) workers in the Washington, D.C area would consider leaving their employer to work for Amazon. It also revealed that employees choose to stay with an employer when they like their company culture, are happy and engaged on the job, and feel they have work life balance.

“Companies need to think creatively and differentiate themselves so they can land and keep the people they need to deliver on their business goals,”Jezior explained. “It’s tactics like tapping into your unique culture, forging partnerships with community groups, rethinking job descriptions, and really understanding what keeps employees engaged and happy. Employers who dig deep to understand what their workforce needs are positioned to attract and keep their star employees when they’re competing with the tech giants.”
